So, its just concrete what can you do?
There is so much to do its just unbelieverable.
We start with our proprietary mix designs. We start with local, what ever is close. We have found ASTM graded sands and pea gravel. Also post consumer and post industrial 100% glass aggregates. This means it is not remelted down and colored then crushed and resold. It is what it is and thats all that is available. Meaning if the local supply is out of cobalt blue you might have to wait a few days till some arrives at the recycle center. However we do keep a decent supply of different colored glass on hand. Several colors are available. Other custom aggregates are available, such as metal scraps and shavings, shells, broken tiles, its almost limitless.
Then we branch out to post industrial pozzolans, for strength and less permeability. Our pozzolans keep ash out of land fills and better our product along with reducing the portland content. To further improve our mix we incorporate CSA cements and opt out of ordinary portland cement. This does several things for the better of the environment. First CSA's require 60% less energy to be created over conventional portland, thats a no brainer, less CO2 released in to the environment. Secondly they don't require the need of a 7 day wet cure, so no excess production water, used for curring purposes. Thirdly the immediate strength gains enable us to DRY polish a superior product in hours compared to days or weeks.
DRY polish! No water wasted in polishing our countertops. We save upwards of 500 gallons of water per project by observing these methods of curing and polishing.
